Fly Legacy XL
Fly fishing is a sport that can take you to some of the most beautiful places in the world. It’s also a sport that can often require some pretty deep pockets. Here at Powell, we always try to offer above-average performance at below-average price points. With this in mind, we went back to the drawing board to create a brand-new lineup of fly rods that would pay tribute to our long, rich history in fly fishing. After many months of research, design, consulting, and testing, we finally hit the desired mark. Introducing the new Legacy XL series of fly rods.
This lineup showcases beautifully simplistic designs and impressive performance, yet delivers everything at an attractive price. If fishing small flies for ultra-spooky trout is your thing, the 893-4 is your rod. This 3-weight is an awesome choice whether nymphing pocket water in a spring creek or presenting tiny dries to heavily-pressured rainbows. While it’s a light-duty rod, it's still very capable of reaching out to distant targets and there’s enough backbone on tap to maintain control of an oversized fish. ..$170.00
For anglers that want to go against traditional thinking, a 4-weight can make a good all-around trout rod in many regions. Our 9-footer is versatile enough to do most everything from softly presenting delicate dry flies to fishing a small streamer. If you’re a bluegill fanatic this rod is a real hoot with tiny poppers, too! ..$170.00
Long considered the best all-around trout rod on planet earth, the 9-foot 5-weight is indeed the epitome of versatility. Capable of fishing dries, streamers, and weighted nymphing rigs, this is the rod to choose if you can only bring one on the boat. What are you waiting for? Catch the first flight to Montana! ..$170.00
Our 906-4 is the weapon you need when targeting larger trout or dealing with more challenging conditions. This stick will effectively cut through a modest breeze and deliver a fly right where you need it. Good for more than just trout, anglers will also appreciate this 6-weight when chasing other species like bass, summer steelhead, or even smaller bonefish and snook. ..$170.00
Like the 5-weight, an 8-weight is the king of versatility for saltwater and heavy freshwater angling. Our fast action effectively delivers the goods whether you need to place a quick, short cast at 3 o’clock to a tailing redfish or swing a streamer down-and-across for winter steelies. With the 908-4 you’ll never be left asking for more! ..$170.00
In saltwater, wind and big flies are part of the game. The 9-weight is a supreme tool in the fight against these two challenges, and with our 909-4 in hand you’ll always come out on top. When a little more power is needed to chuck a 350-grain sinking line into a striper rip or make a long cast across a wind-whipped Islamorada flat, this rod will perform. Freshwater anglers will love this stick for mean species like big bass and king salmon. ..$170.00
