When designing our rods, we are obsessive about performance, components, and aesthetics. If any of those don’t meet our exacting specifications, we take notice. Here at Powell, we are extremely proud of our newest Inferno rods, but something wasn’t quite right with a recent batch. While the core blank performance was still there, a couple of the components weren’t exactly what we originally specified. It would be foolish to scrap these rods simply for very minor inconsistencies, so we decided to make them into their own unique series—the new Powell Mistake rods!
Infused with the basic design and DNA of the Inferno series, Mistake rods feature the same 36-ton Maxumfiber blanks along with an added “Mini Matrix” for smooth, strong, consistent fishability. Other similarities include a matte finish, premium split-cork grips, and Pacific Bay Minima reel seats. Mistake rods separate themselves simply because they include some components not part of the original plan. The use of silver Fuji ring guides, rubber winding checks, and uniquely-colored logo areas help set these rods apart.
Both spinning and casting models are available in various technique-specific lengths and actions. Serious bass anglers take note - not all mistakes are bad!.
